P0513Incorrect Immobilizer Key

BMW diagnostic code. Below: what it means, common causes, symptoms, and the exact bench-programming fix path.

Common causes

  • Aftermarket key cut but not programmed
  • Key chip damaged or moved out of position
  • Immobilizer module EEPROM corruption
  • Used module installed without re-pairing
  • Battery-disconnect during a previous coding attempt

Symptoms you'll see

  • Specific "incorrect key" warning
  • Engine cranks, no fuel pulse
  • Key fob locks/unlocks doors but won't start engine

The fix path

Verify the key actually has the right transponder type, then check whether the module needs re-pairing. For pre-CAS BMW: EWS delete bypasses the issue. For CAS/FEM: re-pair the key to the existing module via bench programming.
