Why we use it
Orange5 is the EEPROM programmer we reach for when a job needs direct chip-off access — Mercedes pre-2003 EIS, Volvo CEM, Saab CIM EEPROM. Reads + writes a huge chip library covering the obscure stuff.
When we reach for it
Mercedes pre-NEC EIS where direct chip-off is required. Cluster EEPROM repairs across brands. Anything where the supported tool list of brand-specific bench tools comes up short.
What it doesn't do
Chip-off is more invasive than in-circuit access — requires careful unsoldering + resoldering. Not as fast as integrated bench tools when those tools support the chip natively.
